Meet the Mommy [Week 22] – Luchae from My Spreadsheet Brain

The mommy I’m featuring today is someone whom I’ve been stalking following online for a really long time. Luchae’s posts are funny and honest; also, she has an adorable little baby, so how does one possibly resist those Insta pics? ?

In case you missed it, you can read last week’s feature here: Meet the Mommy [Week 21] – Cisca from It’s A Mom’s Life.

Now let’s meet Luchae, and find out a little about her.

1. Please tell us a little – or a lot (we like details) – about yourself?

I’m Luchae Williams, a blogger over at My Spreadsheet Brain, where I chat about how my kids make me lose my mind on a daily basis. Kidding! But I do love speaking about the lessons and loves of being their mama! I have 4 kids (yes, 4 aaack) and I’m married to a rockstar t/a a computer geek. I’m currently working in advertising for the biggest newspaper in the Eastern Cape. I also co-host the ECMeetUp on the side (it’s the EC’s biggest annual blogger convention), and create content for various online publications. Oh and I sometimes sleep too. But only sometimes, let’s not get too crazy.

2. What’s the one thing you find most challenging about being a working mom?

I feel like I’m permanently tired. I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I honestly feel as if I go through my daily routine with one goal in mind – to eventually get into bed. I mean, getting into bed could happen at 11pm or at 8pm… My point is that it’s my end goal. Getting there is the challenge.

3. We all know there are challenging moments – moments which call for chocolate, or wine (or both), to soothe those mommy nerves… Forgetting all that though, what is your absolute favourite thing about being a mom?

My children are literally the most beautiful out of all the kids in like, the entire world. Literally. Biased? Well, only a little. 🙂 But other than their overwhelming good looks, they are also pretty special. Kyle, my eldest and my pride, was born when I was a tiny little 19 year old, fresh out of school. Karis, born a whole 12 years later, is my only girl and my greatest reward! Jonah Mark is our littlest blessing and I swear he came along just so that I could have someone’s cheeks to munch on. Seth is my stepson and an unexpected added joy, and the best brother to Kyle… wait, where was I going with this? Did I answer the question? I love being their mom!

4. From the experience you’ve gained since becoming a parent, what is a pretty cool piece of advice you would give to other moms?

Each child is different… they all have their own unique personality and interests. They react to things differently, and they hit developmental milestones on their own sweet time. Chill, Mama! Seriously though… relax.

5. Share with us one of the funniest moments you’ve had since becoming a mom.

Hmmm I can’t choose! I think it’s pretty hilarious whenever people find out that we have 4 kids. I mean, I get it, paying 4 sets of school fees is a joke on it’s own. But the fact that we’re still young enough to remember our 21st birthdays as if it were yesterday, I get why awkward/shocked giggles are the response when we’ve answered the “so, do you have kids” question.

Meet Mommy - Luchae

How this little series was born… A while back I was thinking about how all the moms I know are different in many ways – be it their parenting style, or whether they go to work, stay at home, or work from home. Some have one little person, while others have three or four. Some of our babies began their journey inside us learning the sound of our heartbeat, whilst some began in another only to meet us later and hold our hearts forever. Whatever the differences in how we became moms, how we parent… Being a mom, plus ALL that comes with it, is what we all have in common.

And that’s how I came up with the Meet the Mommy series – an interview with regular moms like you and I, where we get to “meet” mommies who are different in many ways, yet have so much in common too.
