Life Lately In My Living Room

Remember how I always said that winter is my favourite season? Well, there’s been a recent shift. I am not coping with this weather. I’m so cold all the time, even my body hurts. Has winter in South Africa become too brutal, or have I just gotten really old? Either way, I cannot wait for warmer days when I can feel my toes again! Right now, the only place I can stay warm – other than my bed – is on the living room floor. I grab a throw, get comfy on the rug, and the under-carpet heater helps me thaw out.

I’m spending way more time in here than usual, which also means I’ve started seeing all the things I want to change. I’m envisioning a light, clean, cozy space. I even went online window shopping and found some gorgeous couches that would definitely complement the look I’m going for. (I should probably preface this by letting you know that there is no budget for this newfound career in interior design, I’m just adding to my Pinterest collection. But if you’re thinking of giving your living room a makeover, I hope this helps. 😊)

The wall colour was the first thing that really started to bother me. Like, I’m the one who chose this colour. Was I not wearing my glasses that day? It has to go. Is it an offensive colour? No. However, I now require lighter walls in this room to complete my vision. The curtains were next on my radar. Now that I’ve pretty much moved into the living room, I feel like I’d rather have the neighbours able to see me than have to stare at these curtains any longer.

The couch has me conflicted. We’d loved it for a really long time before we actually bought it. We still love it. So someone please explain why I now feel the urge to replace it with a white or cream one that would mean an end to all snacking (and any beverages of colour) in the living room?

And of course, seeing as I’ve become so closely acquainted with our rug this winter, it was only a matter of time before I started feeling some type of way about it. It’s beautiful and soft, but I’m starting to feel that it’s way too dark and making the space seem small… An off-white one would work better with the new couch anyway. 😂

All this redecorating is hard work, so I turned to trusty AI to paint a few pictures of my vision for the living room (including the one above).

I think this one looks amazing, but it’s more suited for a much bigger house. It’s so pretty though.

This one and the first one are my favourites. I can definitely see myself enjoying the daily defrosting sessions in either of them.

And in case you need more inspiration pics, I found these last two on Pinterest.

Whether you’re actually redecorating, or just playing with your living room vision board for now, stay warm and have lots of fun.
