**WIN** tickets to SPLASH! The Water Circus at Silverstar Casino

SPLASH! The Water Circus is set to enthrall audiences at Silverstar Casino on its first visit to South Africa, direct from Russia.

Launching on 19 August, the show will be at Silverstar Casino until 17 September, before heading off on a nationwide tour until January 2018.

SPLASH! The Water Circus

SPLASH! The Water Circus is a circus for the modern-age, presenting a variety of all circus genres, but with a unique, visual twist. The traditional acts look completely different as they are presented in – or above – a 12-metre diameter pool of water. Accompanying this is a dazzling lighting and laser show which perfectly displays the impressive body manipulation and contortion feats amongst a series of water fountains.

You will gasp as you watch traditional aerial circus acts such as the spectacular Silks all take place above water. Added to the already impressive list of circus acts is the Brazilian Espana family performing their daredevil Wheel of Death and The Russian Swing.

SPLASH! The Water Circus

In addition to all the circus acts which we’re accustomed to seeing, the show also has a full team of synchronized swimmers who add to the magic of the performance. Their disciplined and well trained displays are one of the reasons why the show is considered to be so unique.

This circus is totally free of animals and showcases the extreme talent and capabilities of the human body in an action-packed show presented around the custom-built pool ensuring a truly memorable audience experience.

Jenny Morris, Lentswe Bhengu, Sarah Graham, Neill Anthony and Sherwyn Weaich are also on this year’s Good Food & Wine menu, in addition to headline sommeliers Lloyd Jusa (Saxon Hotel), Gregory Mutambe (12 Apostles Hotel) – who will all share some of their fine wine knowledge with show attendees.

GFWS2017

Over 60 000 visitors attended the three Good Food & Wine Shows in 2016, and this year’s footfall is expected to increase with chefs like White and Van der Westhuizen on the bill of fare, a huge T Rex dinosaur cake and a wide selection of vendors and interactive installations showcasing food and fare from around the globe. The floor will be divided into nine specific exhibition areas for attendees to explore: Market, Street Food, Gourmet, Baking, Kids, Wellness, Lifestyle, Wine, Beer and Alcohol.

North meets South

Trailblazing British chef Marco Pierre White has been dubbed the world’s first celebrity chef. White was 33 when he was awarded three Michelin stars, and still holds the title as the first British chef and the youngest chef ever to earn this honour. He featured as a star judge and guest on MasterChef Australia where he was called ‘the godfather of modern cooking’.

White has also trained famous chefs like Mario Batali, Gordon Ramsay, Curtis Stone and Shannon Bennett. After retiring from the kitchen in 1999 Marco became a restaurateur and has published several books, including the best-selling cookbook/autobiography White Heat.

“I was last in South Africa in 2014 so I am excited to be returning in 2017 to headline the Good Food & Wine Show for the first time,” says White. “As much as I will be sharing my culinary journey with the visitors attending the shows, I am also looking forward to transferring knowledge and experience to some of the top local talent in South Africa and partaking in the diverse food culture this beautiful country has to offer.”

GFWS2017

Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen is South Africa’s first Michelin star chef, and owner of JAN Restaurant in Nice on the French Riviera. Also a gifted photographer, food stylist, writer, entrepreneur and businessman, Van der Westhuizen’s humble Middelburg origins set the foundation for his Boereseun and French twist cooking style on Boerekos.

All visitors to this year’s show will get a chance to watch White and Van der Westhuizen in action daily, free of charge, at the Chefs’ Open Theatre. In addition, the two chefs will be cooking up a storm at the Chefs’ Table: smaller, more intimate ticketed events where people will have the chance to meet the chefs, taste their food and sample some of South Africa’s top wines.

“We want to engage with visitors and involve every one of their senses,” says Maria Chieppa, Managing Director of Fiera Milano Exhibitions Africa. “We have used taste, touch, smell, sight and sound to tell a 360° story about food and wine. It’s a great occasion for food lovers, families and professionals to enjoy food and wine at all levels.”

GFWS2017

This year, the show hosts nine theatres, of which seven are free of extra charge for entry, serving up even more value for those attending. The Good Food & Wine Show theatres include: Eat Well/Live Well, Wine Theatre, Baking Theatre, Cake Deco Lab, Chefs’ Table, Chefs’ Open Theatre, Cooking with Chefs, the Kids Deco Lab and the SCASA Barista Championships – a new partnership with the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa (SCASA) partnership and the show to host the 2017 Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal Regional Barista Championships.

Children under 12 attend free, and Fridays are free for pensioners. Tickets are available online at www.goodfoodandwineshow.co.za and Ticketpro for Johannesburg.

** WIN ** Tickets to Transformers Animatronics: The Exhibition (2 x family packages worth R400 each)

Transformers

This month marks 10 years since the release of Transformers, the first in a series of films based on the Hasbro toys. The 2007 film was the first, and also the best in the series (this is my opinion, but let’s face it, it’s the truth 😉). Yes there were flaws, but these are nanoscopic when compared to the brilliance that is the film as a whole. I’ve watched all of the Transformers films, with the exception of The Last Knight (because, parents), but I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched the first one. From the funny one-liners… to seeing them all transform for the first time… Optimus giving the iconic command, “Autobots, roll out!”… and the unmistakable intro to Linkin Park’s What I’ve Done at the end, before the credits roll… it all makes for an absolutely unforgettable film!

Of all the characters, Optimus is my favourite and Shawn’s (the film is THAT good – you get emotionally attached to a truck!), and Bumblebee is Zee’s. Mega fans that we are, you can just imagine the excitement when we got the chance to see these guys up close at Transformers Animatronics: The Exhibition!

Transformers

Transformers Animatronics: The Exhibition is in South Africa for the first time! It is a walk through exhibition depicting the Transformers from the iconic 1980’s toy line, to the animated Rescue Bots, and finally incredible, towering sculptures which represent the Transformers we see in the film series. The exhibition features sculptures of varying sizes, some up to 11m tall (wow!), all made from re-used car parts, metal and other repurposed materials.

After an amazing 3 months at Emperors in Johannesburg, the Autobots and Decepticons have now arrived in Centurion, just in time for the Winter school holidays! They’ll be at Centurion Mall until 15 October 2017.

** WIN **

I have 2 sets of family tickets (2 adults + 2 kids) worth R400 each, to give away to 2 moms (or dads) to Transformers Animatronics in Centurion! 😀
